Before You Buy Someone You Love Music

By Kim Jones, About.com

The holidays are a great time to show appreciation for that special person in your life, and a good CD makes a wonderful gift. Here are some tips on picking the right CD for your friend or loved one.

First Things First - Know Their Taste

Obviously, you wouldn't buy head banging metal if your friend prefers easy listening or southern gospel. It wouldn't be something that they would enjoy and it wouldn't look like you cared enough to buy them something special.

Individual Band vs Compilation CD

If your friend has a favorite band or two then it's easy ... just pick up a CD by that band. But if they don't, or if they already have all of the releases by a particular artist, then compilation CD's are a good option.

Related Gifts

Buying a video of their favorite band to go along with a CD is a great combo. If your loved one is an avid reader and he/she likes the "behind the scenes" kind of stuff, a biography about his/her favorite artist makes a wonderful gift. Maybe your friend sings, plays guitar or piano. If so, a songbook/CD combo makes an excellent one-two punch!

Magazines

Again, if your friend or loved one enjoys reading, a subscription to a Christian Music magazine is a good choice.

Concert Tickets

Going to a concert is always fun, and going to a Christian concert is even better. What better gift than tickets to hear his or her favorite artist with you at their side and lots of pictures to commemorate the event?
